Reasons we dance:

  • Physical and mental exercise plus sociability. Regular exercise can lead to a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol profile. It may also be beneficial against the development of Alzheimer’s because you learn to execute calls without having to stop and think how to do it.
  • Square Dancing contains a social component that solitary fitness endeavours do not. It gives one an opportunity to develop strong social ties that contribute to self-esteem and a positive outlook.
  • It is an activity that is drug and alchohol free and conducted in a smoke free environment.
  • You make new friends.
  • You can forget your troubles.

Researchers have attached pedometers to square dancers and found that each dancer covered five miles in a single evening. It has been noted that in a half hour of dancing one can burn between 200 and 400 calories.
